We sell thousands of small items at the lowest prices we can manage. Chasing up claims for non-delivery of such small items would add a huge amount to our prices and everyone would have to pay more. That is why our prices include only “for packing and delivery to carrier”. We do collect a carriage charge on your behalf at the time of purchase, but that is a service to you – we use your money to buy the post or carriage on your behalf. We can supply you with proof of posting if there is a problem with delivery, but you will have to take the matter up with the carrier. We will help where we can, but our legal responsibility ends when we hand the goods to your carrier and obtain a receipt. In reality, we can usually sort things out.
Sadly, we can only offer refunds if goods are returned to us within fourteen days unopened with bottle seals intact. As we are not responsible for carriage costs, you will be responsible for paying the return postage and obtaining proof of posting. Please take care to package up the products carefully and securely as we cannot issue refunds for items damaged in the post as a result of poor packaging. If you wish to return any items then please contact us first so that we have the chance to rectify the problem quickly and easily. We are here to help!
Obviously, if we make a mistake with your order, we will put it right at no extra cost to you. Just tell us the problem by email and we will attend to it. Make sure you include your details with returned goods so we know who they have come from.
Yes we do. There are however a few things to bear in mind. The main problem with international parcels is that many of our natural products (seeds, wood, soil etc) fall foul of international border control and phytosanitary laws. We have had shipments detained or destroyed by border control that leaves us and our customers in a difficult situation. Many overseas authorities require extra treatments or expert examination or specific documentation under the various bits of wildlife, plant protection, phytosanitary requirements and other details. Where there is an extra charge for these services, we will advise you before making up your order so that you can decide whether to proceed or not. In all cases, we try our very best to provide a top-rate service to our overseas customers and friends, but we have no control over your local legislation, so we cannot be held responsible for any loss or damages however caused, consequential or otherwise, if anything is seized by authorities.
Some countries will have charges associated with importing items into the country. If your order does incur addition charges such as tax / import duty then those costs are your responsibility to pay.
Yes we do. Just select the appropriate shipping method to your location at the checkout.
Our prices are quoted “including delivery to carrier”. We collect an additional carriage charge at the checkout so that we can purchase the carriage on your behalf. Our responsibility ends when we hand your goods to the carrier and obtain proof of posting. If you have any problems with delivery, we will be happy to provide you with a copy of the proof of posting so that you can expedite matters with the carrier.
Please note that we operate a confidential list of customers whose address cause problems with payments, non-delivery or damage to goods in transit. This is no reflection on the customers, but we may decline further business from such addresses at our discretion.
All parcels are sent in plain outer wrappers to maintain customer privacy and carriage is calculated based on weight & volume.
All prices at the checkout are quoted for packing and delivery to the carrier, plus a carriage charge that we collect on your behalf and pay the carrier as a service to you. All advertised prices are E & OE and may be subject to change.

ZUGGANS BRINES & LIQUIDS
Please be aware that one of our primary products 'Zuggans brines' are not yet available in the shop.
The information provided on them below is a taster of what is soon to come.
Stay with us, a revolution in spell casting & ritual is coming soon!
Zuggan is an old Cornish word meaning “the essence of everything”. We use “Zuggan” in a number of ways. “The Zuggan of something” is the invisible information or spiritual blueprint (some call it Qui or vital force or spirit energy) that built the substance in the first place.
“A Zuggan sphere” is a small silica glass ball used as an attractor (like a medicine stone or serpent stone) to loosely charm or hold the Zuggan until you need it. There is a Zuggan sphere in every bottle.
“Zuggan Brine” is the brine20 (20% - very salty water) that is the medium used to hold and transport Zuggan. The Zuggan Brine is further diluted into a brine, vegetable glycerine, organic plant oil or alcohol according to customers’ wishes. Like the chemicals used in chemistry or ingredients used in cooking, Zuggan Brines can be used instead of other animal, vegetable, mineral or artefactual materials that are used in magical rituals, arts and crafts. In addition, being pharmacologically safe and invisible when dry, they can be used in limitless ways as ingredients, libations, washes, energisers, blessings, protectors and just about every other wonder-making art. When they become familiar with Zuggans, most people simply call everything, the invisible information, the liquid, the sphere and the bottle by the same simple catch-all term, “Zuggans”.
Depending on your order, the most common bottle is a 10ml PET bottle fitted with a dropper nozzle to make dispensing drops as easy as possible. The plastics we use are also referred to as “polymer glass” and polymer glass is transparent to magic, having been thoroughly beaten up by industrial machinery, so it has little effective spiritual pattern either. It also has no metaphysical effect on the liquid contents. PET is virtually unbreakable in use and during transport, and is flexible enough to aid in dispensing drops of brine. PET bottles are very light, saving a huge amount of energy in transport, and with some 200 drops in every bottle, they are definitely not single-use. Our bottles should be stored away from bright lights unless being purposefully energised for brief periods under the sun or moon. For convenience, you can order PET bottles fitted with plastic pipettes.
We can also supply, at extra cost, Zuggans brines in a 10ml tinted glass bottle, either fitted with a dropper cap or a bulb pipette of the type widely used in aromatherapy. These are much heavier than the PET bottles and require more robust packaging and extra transport cost. The glass in the bottle is believed to absorb a small amount of energy from the Zuggan that it exchanges with a small gift of energy from the silica in the glass. Although this exchange is believed to produce a subtle influence on the contents, it is not enough to affect everyday magical work.
The bottle contains Zuggan brine of the material shown on the label, produced by us according to our Zuggan method – somewhat resembling homeopathic, contagious or corresponding magic methods, although based on an entirely different philosophy. Only the Zuggan of the original material remains in the liquid after processing. Our process could be described as reminiscent of homeopathy, although, of course, magic is as old as mankind and predates homeopathy by thousands of years.
In a Zuggan bottle, the liquid is simply clear brine20 (very salty water), vegetable glycerine, 70% pure alcohol, organic plant oil or some other carrier depending on your order. Although it is clear (allowing it to be used invisibly), it can be lightly dyed with natural pigment or our colour kit for some uses, particularly colour magic.
The contents should provide about 200 individual Zuggan drops. This makes Zuggan drops extremely economical, especially since, in spiritual matters (and unlike medicine) portion size is unimportant and a tiny amount is equal to a large amount. In effect, the art of magick works like a law – the same amount of law applies regardless of the amount of people affected by it, and a law is a law – having a hundred copies of it doesn’t make it a stronger law.
The bottle also contains a Zuggan sphere. This is a small silica glass sphere that acts as a “home” or “attractor” for the Zuggan energy or information so that the drops remain effective almost indefinitely. Sphere and liquid together make up a kind of “spiritual battery” (not a scientific description, but it gives you an idea) that conserves the Zuggan until you need it. For traditionalists, we describe the Zuggans sphere in each bottle as acting like a medicine stone.
Yes, and in many cases better. The magical properties of Zuggan brines are extracted from fresh herbs where possible, using traditional ritual and timing, then processed to remain as magically viable as possible, almost indefinitely, thanks to the Zuggan sphere in every bottle.
For many practitioners of the magical arts, growing or collecting wild herbs and other materials is an important part of magical life, reaffirming an ancestral existence spent closer to and immersed in the natural environment. But, herbs being herbs, they are not always in season or at the correct stage for harvesting, they can be hard to find, and many are protected from collectors by law. Some, of course, only grow in foreign climates. Even when they are in season, it can take many, many hours to find and identify the right herb and obtain permission to collect it. Busy modern people haven’t the time to search for wild herbs and few people have the space or time to grow them these days. Unfortunately, due to demand, a number of herbs are becoming rare in the wild, and many are now efficiently farmed by the ton, harvested by machines, and then force-dried in factories. For these and many other reasons, Zuggans brines were developed to conserve our precious materials and environments and, at the same time, provide effective, hand gathered materials as conveniently as possible.
Some herbs are “impossible” from a modern perspective. Some are extremely poisonous or contain substances that can cause or promote serious medical conditions such as dermatitis, asthma or even cancer (they were here millions of years before we humans arrived on earth and they developed some pretty impressive ways of protecting themselves over those millions of years). Some herbs are simply illegal (in the UK) to have in your possession, such as opium poppy extracts, cannabis or magic mushrooms. Others, such as ricin from the seed casings of the castor oil plant or abrin from the seed of the rosary pea, are so poisonous they may bring you into conflict with the security services under terrorism legislation aimed at weapons of mass destruction. Among plants and chemicals there are lots of precursors or constituents of poisons, illegal drugs, explosives and other harmful products. You should not try to obtain them online, handle them or extract concentrates of them if you want to stay out of prison, hospital or your local morgue. You must certainly never expose any other person (including couriers, border and mail personnel) to any dangerous herb or substance. Sadly, the days of innocently practicing every possible avenue of your alchemy or magical chemistry at home using powerful natural materials are long gone. Without Zuggans, for example, it would be impossible to follow the Poison Path safely.
We make Zuggan brines out of all these things, in a process a bit like homeopathic remedies. We dilute them to the state where none of the dangerous or illegal physical substances remain in the liquid (menstruum), so they are safe to own and use in any way you want to. Although they are not produced to be either foods or medicines, we have to allow for accidents, small children and chewy pets, so we make them so safe that (from a medical point of view at least) they are perfectly safe to swallow – their magical properties may be another thing altogether.
Use them exactly the same way as you use all your magical materials. You can mix them into herb and incense mixtures, salves, potions, anointing fluids, libations and all of the other common materia magica used to bless, protect, attract or dispel across every form of ritual. Add a drop to cleansing, holy or bathing water. Evaporate drops on a burner. Mix drops together to achieve desired results. Put a drop on a poppet, envelope, document, lottery ticket, letter, poem or other correspondence to provide it with magical life and purpose. Include Zuggan drops in your wishing, witches’ or muti bottles. Anoint your tools, circles and doorways with a Zuggan drop to cleanse and protect. Use a protective drop as a guardian on your altar, or stand the whole bottle of Zuggans drops on your altar to provide the presence necessary to ritual.
Although not sold as a food or medicine, some people put a drop in their animal’s food or water or bedding – they are harmless from a pharmacological viewpoint. When you water your plants, you might put a drop in the water. The list is endless.
We collect traditional materials used in the various branches of spell-casting, protection, shamanism, hoodoo and herbal magic and also those used in making and energising everyday magical articles such as amulets and talismans. Ideally, we collect certain materials at specific times of the day, specific times of the lunar cycle or tides, specific weather conditions, specific stages of growth or other important propitious or effective times. A few require specific harvesting rituals.
When harvesting for nurture and civilised magic, we always ask permission before taking living materials, take the least possible or least damaging quantity and always offer thanks and a gift or libation as appropriate.
We avoid the use of commercially grown materials wherever we can, and even then prefer organic or natural materials that are “nature grown”. Commercially grown materials tend to be pumped with chemicals (loosening or weakening the magic) and beaten up or “scat abroad” by harvesting machinery. “A single leaf of natural is better than a sack-full of farmed”. Here in Cornwall, we are blessed with a wide range of magical materials growing naturally in deeply mystical surroundings.
Because many of our materials are used in extremely delicate Fae, flower, colour and other very subtle branches of magic, we harvest and process gentle materials manually with no metal contact (NMC), since it is widely believed that metal contact or strong electromagnetic currents can overcome, scatter or kill the magic. Our main labs and dispensing rooms, for example, are Faraday shielded.
We use specially made tools of ceramic, wood or polymer to cut and prepare all gentle materials. Most of our liquids are processed, stored and sold in polymer containers - polypropylene, for example, leaches infinitely tiny amounts of chemicals, but luckily, if anything, they are non-competing trance promoting and antiseptic chemicals that do not conflict with rituals. We find glass containers, being largely silica (quartz), can pick up and store stray influences because of Brownian motion in the liquids, some of which are unhelpful in spell casting but that can be offset by placing a Zuggan sphere in the storage container. Many plastics, on the other hand, are magically neutral or transparent and, as an extra bonus, virtually unbreakable.
The harvested materials are picked apart, sliced, macerated or ground (again using porcelain, zirconia or other ceramic tools), usually by hand, so the Zuggan we need can be extracted using alcohol and/or brine appropriate to the material in question. Some extractions use sunlight or moonlight assistance in accordance with widely held traditional practice. A few are exposed to the energy of ancient sacred sites (here in Cornwall, we are blessed with many, with dozens of standing stones and more than 100 holy wells within a one hour drive). Others are prepared under an arch of protective briar and poison path guardianship.
The extraction is generally described as cold percolation – the material is allowed to soak, unheated, for a set period before filtering. Some have a single pass, others have repeated extractions. No metal equipment or metal containers are used. Some extracts are used fresh, while others take varying amounts of time, up to a year and a day. After all these years, we now hold stocks of rain water collected on every day of the year, plus rain and some dew collected at harvests, festivals, full moons and other propitious times. These are important when preparing rituals that include birth days and asking favours on specific Saint’s days.
Animal extracts are taken with the utmost reverence. No animal is ever killed in order to provide our nurture magic materials. Many sudden victims, typically roadkill or victims of hunters, have associated spirits that are bereft and marooned due to shock brought about by the sudden passing state. We believe they are willing to assist us when we help them to pass and have spiritual staff available to help.
After extraction, animal remains are always gathered back together and given a respectful earth, fire, sky or water burial as appropriate, under the dual supervision of our shaman and our staff psychometrist to ensure the smoothest possible total transition.
Back in the lab, the extracted liquid (animal, vegetable, mineral or artefact) is then filtered through a single-use, disposable cotton filter into a new bottle containing a waiting Zuggan Sphere, ready to “fix” the Zuggan we need. During the filtration, a colour standard photo is taken of the filtrate to enable us to colour match it later if required. Again, while the magic is on the move, no metals are involved. Most filtrates are then immediately dosed with at least 33% pure bioethanol and 20% by weight of salt (sodium chloride) to ensure enduring biosecurity. (We set aside and store a 200ml sample of every filtrate in case we are challenged by trading standards to prove that our brines are genuine and processed as described).
The filtrate becomes a “Mother Tincture”. In much the same way as homeopathy, this mother tincture is then diluted 1:100 in a mixture of brine and bioalcohol. Our brine is made using salt and potable water (distilled water is too hungry and absorbs a little of just about everything that touches it). This brine is then diluted 1:100 again in more brine. Each extraction, as in homeopathy, is accompanied by vibration, provided in our case by a big tuning fork. And so the process goes on, to the equivalent of a twelve times dilution, with the same Zuggan Sphere traveling through the process with each liquid. The last dilution takes place when the Zuggan liquid is finally placed in a dispenser bottle and transferred to one of the dispensing rooms. At this dilution (about 1:1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000), there is none of the superficial physical original material left in the liquid brines. Only the Zuggan of the original material remains, made safe by the bioethanol and held in the memory of the brine under the attraction of a Zuggan Sphere.
We believe that the only thing remaining in the liquid is the information or “blueprint” that built the original material in question, a mixture of (invisible) natural laws and its (invisible) history. We also believe that this information, rather than the actual substance, is the “thing” that exerts the most powerful influence and is the “spirit” and “energy” inside everything in (and beyond) the universe. The fundamental Information hypothesis is taken from Compass philosophy.
In the dispensing room, The Zuggan liquid is packed to order, with a new Zuggan sphere, into a 10ml dropper bottle of brine20, veggie glycerine, alcohol, organic plant oil or other carrier for despatch to our customers.
If you ask the question from an objective or scientific or legal point of view, the question has little meaning because magic is subjective, an art. Magic requires the input and energy of a human being (the Mage) in order to make it work and includes aspects of spirituality, ritual, wonder, dreaming, astral travel, wish fulfilment, experience and a host of other applied things that science cannot (and often does not want to) describe satisfactorily. We prefer to describe what we do in terms of art – we simply make the paints – it’s up to you, as the magical artist, to produce the “pictures”. Our mission is simply to produce the finest wide range of materials at the lowest price we can manage.
Yes, you can, although the brines are probably too salty for most tastes. We go to great lengths to make sure that there are no poisons or germs left in our Zuggans brines.
We start the process of extraction by cold maceration in brine, using water that passes international standards for potable water, typically ISO 24510 in accordance with The Drinking Water Directive. The water is heavily salted – we use brine20, that is, water with 20% weight for weight of salt in it. Biosecurity during first extraction from the original material is then further provided by the addition of sufficient alcohol, usually pure bioethanol – the same stuff that is in vodka or other drinks. Actual ratios of salt and alcohol vary according to the materials being processed.
After extraction comes filtering. A clean, new, 100% natural fibre filter is used for each filtration. New pipettes, bottles and clean test tubes are used at every stage to prevent cross-contamination. After use, all equipment and bottles are recycled through official, responsible routes.
After filtering, the liquid is mixed with more alcohol for security and then diluted millions of times using brine20 in a process reminiscent of homeopathy, using Schumann resonation rather than succussion.
Most of our thousands of bulk brines are stored in a form equivalent to homeopathic C10. Particularly toxic or (originally) dangerous materials are usually stored in a form equivalent to homeopathic C200 or above.
When an order comes in, bulk Zuggans drops are added to the required number of retail bottles of brine 20, vegetable glycerine, plant oil or alcohol according to customer needs, together with an unadulterated and untouched Zuggans sphere in each bottle. All orders are freshly made up before despatch. By the time they go out to customers, the brines are the equivalent of homeopathic C13 or above.
A Zuggan sphere is a small silica glass ball that works in a Zuggan liquid like a medicine stone to act as an attractor or charm for the Zuggan in the liquid, preventing it from dissipating until you need it. When it is needed, the dropper bottle is energised, loosening sufficient Zuggan energy or information to achieve the desired effect.
Medicine stones are a very ancient healing belief. If you walk by a river or seashore, concentrating on a cure for an ailment or problem, a smooth, round stone, like a marble or pigeon egg, will eventually make itself known to you by attracting your attention. Many are clear or white, but any colour may speak to you. This is a medicine stone, easily found with practice. When it is placed against the skin of a sick person, often held in place by a bandage, the stone acts as an attractor or charmer. Imagine it like a little planet, giving the disease “somewhere else to live”. The stone will not fight the disease (unlike the sick person who will fight it), so the disease moves into the stone “for a quieter life”, or is “charmed” – a bit like heat moving into a cool area. When the charm is effected, the stone is put back in the river or sea where the disease and its history will be dispersed or “scat abroad” once more. Healers often carried medicine stones in special belt pouch, and medicine stones have been found beside skeletons in archaeological excavations, where they are usually dismissed as grave goods, weights, games or the catch-all “votive offerings”. Today, in a more sophisticated way, healers use crystals and gems mined from the four corners of the earth. Zuggan spheres combine ancient round stone belief with modern crystal/gem belief.
We dilute them to preserve the magic, while the physical material is washed away. Once the herb or other material has been filtered, we treat it with alcohol for biosafety, and then dilute it 1:100 in brine20. The dilution (in a process similar to potentisation used in homeopathy) is repeated at least twelve times until there is nothing left of the original superficial material – only the magic, its invisible information or spiritual blueprint (its Zuggan), commonly referred to as it energy, remains in the brine.
Of course, the Zuggan of alcohol or glycerine is still in there, too, and it is, now acting as guardian after the removal of the physical material that once contained the magic. By the same measure, the salt in the brine acts to conserve the Zuggan, too.
All through the process of dilution, a Zuggan sphere accompanies the Zuggan liquid on its journey. Every time the Zuggan liquid is diluted, it is also resonated to energise the Zuggan and ensure its transfer it into the brine.
Again, you can visualise this vibration or resonation as something like the succussion used in homeopathy, but we don’t bang the liquids on a leather pad or book. We vibrate the liquid using a vibrating fork that resembles a king-size tuning fork. The fork is tuned across the first Schumann resonance (often called the heartbeat of the planet) and it gently vibrates the liquid at the same frequency we all live in every day. We use a vibrating fork because it doesn’t use electricity (electromagnetism might adversely affect the magic), and the process can be imagined as “gently shaking the Zuggan awake” in order to harvest the magic without scatting it abroad. A shaman’s drum does much the same thing. Other people use a small bell, cymbal or tambourine.
When you pick up a bottle of Zuggan brines in order to use it, you should think clearly about what you want the drops to achieve. To maximise the energy potential you might hold the bottle in your closed hand while you focus on the outcome. You could strike the little bottle with your index finger, or firmly tap the bottle on the palm or heel of your hand once to “wake it up”. Holding and then tapping is recommended. We energise Zuggans by touching them on a Schoemann Resonance tuning fork for five seconds or so.
This is one of Zuggans great advantages. Scientifically, and as far as the law is concerned, Zuggans brines are simply little bottles of salty water and you should have no trouble with carriers or customs officers. There is a general international agreement to exempt small bottles of glycerine or alcohol from excise and other duties. However, there are countries that are a bit sensitive about alcohol, so it is always easier to travel with brines. If travelling by air, it might be a good idea to put your Zuggan brines in your checked luggage rather than your carry-on luggage, just because they are liquids. They don’t contain anything that is generally prohibited such as solvents, inflammables, oxidants, explosives or narcotics.
However, be aware that some Muslim and other countries have very strict laws against practising witchcraft – you might find yourself in deep doo-doo if you admit to witchcraft in those countries. In that scenario, it’s better to describe your brines as homeopathic remedies or medicines or holy waters just to avoid trouble.
Salt is used to absorb the information, protect the Zuggan liquid and exclude water-borne germs in case somebody drinks it. Zuggan brines are typically ten times as salty as sea water. It is widely believed that the salt in the brine can preserve patterns of spiritual energy and salt is believed to store psychic energy as well as it preserves food, friendships, covenants and even life itself. Magically, salt is believed to be powerfully protective and cleansing. Salt water is the womb of life. Civilisations have been established because salt was available. Roman soldiers were paid in salt and it was worth its weight in gold. Salt is a fascinating magical subject on its own.
Zuggans are neither medicines nor foods. They are made and sold for magical ritual use or as curiosities or collector items. Because of legislation affording protection from charlatans, we cannot claim anything other than the bottles contain what is on the label, processed as described in our methods. We do not make any associated claims for Zuggan brines other than to draw your attention to commonly held beliefs, the wide use of similar materials or to encourage experimentation. Medicines and foodstuffs are tightly controlled by regulations in many parts of the world, and rightly so. However, although Zuggans are not medicines, we have to allow for the possibility that people might experiment with magical treatments for their ailments, even though we don’t approve. Children might gain access to the brines if an adult removes the dropper cap. Then there are spills, mistakes or chewy pets that might be tempted. So, we make them as safe as possible. Certainly, the brines, being salty water, will do you no harm in small quantities (although you may exceed your recommended daily salt intake if you drink lots of bottles), and you won’t come to any harm by experimenting or accident. You would have to consume at least twenty bottles of Zuggans in glycerine to have an effect. The effects of alcohol are well known.
We are, of course, required by health and safety and trading standards to remind you not to rely on Zuggans in any way or form as medical indications or medical cures, and you must take appropriate professional advice for any suspected medical, psychiatric or other condition that might concern you. We are happy to proffer this advice because we have no axe to grind with the medical profession or big pharma – we plough very different fields, theirs in science and ours in arts.
NMC stands for “No Metal Contact”. It means that the Zuggan drops inside have not been in contact with any metals (except perhaps gold) as far as we know. Metals have a very powerful influence that can “drown out” the gentle Zuggan energy of flowers and some plants. For that reason, it has long been a European tradition when gathering magical herbs to avoid the use of base metal knives and containers (even gold scythes have a long druid history, but they are a tad expensive for our everyday budget, although we do have one for very special materials). Instead of base metal, we use wood, plastic and ceramic containers and utensils to ensure the best possible outcome. We use large number of glass storage jars for dry materials, but many liquids are stored in plastic bottles because (being a polymer glass) they are largely transparent to magickal energies and are unbreakable.
Collecting and processing materials ourselves, also means we avoid industrial style processing. High speed machines cause three problems. The first problem is violence - the Zuggan information of the material that we are trying to collect can be smashed into smithereens by powerful, high speed machines and then scattered or, as we say, “scat abroad”. This turns the usable Zuggan energy into a “spiritual fog” - like the murmuring of a big crowd compared to a personal conversation. Scat abroad information disperses into the great flow of the universe and is just about lost for practical use. By working gently to ritual, largely by hand, and using as few metals and machines as possible, we take care to preserve the best magical materials we can.
The second problem with industrial processing is that it uses lots of electricity and electricity generates a powerful field that can mask out or “bend out of shape” the magic that we try to save. Subtle energy provided by the magical user or mage provides the energy in spell work, but it is easily corrupted by industrial strength electrical or magnetic fields. This may well explain why, as modern life makes use of more and more fascinating and convenient electrical goodies and mobile phones, we find ourselves being cut off more and more from the natural energy flow and pattern of nature.
Hence the growing needs to try and rediscover the natural energies of magic and works of wonder. Where we do use electrical power, we try to restrict it to less powerful low voltages of 12v or below. Just about all of our stores and processing facilities are, in any case, Faraday shielded – protected from stray electromagnetic (EMF) waves.
The third problem with industrial herbs is the use of stainless steel machines and containers for reasons of regulation, hygiene and speed in industrial production facilities. We believe that many magical materials are adversely affected by contact with metals, especially chrome, nickel and molybdenum found in stainless steel. Iron has its own powerful magical uses. Hygiene inspectors in the pharma industries require them to use stainless steel, but we prefer the laboratory and personal hygiene equivalent of a clean kitchen without stainless steel.
These challenges lead to another question – “If you avoid metals, why or how can you produce brines based on metals or metallic chemicals?” It’s a good question and one we hear regularly.
Although arts such as Flower, Fey or Wiccan magic largely avoid the use of metal ingredients, a number of uncivilised, masculine and guardian arts and rituals do require metals and we are happy to fill that need. Metals and metallic chemicals or mixtures are processed separately from our other materials, using separate tools and utensils. Where we hold them in significant quantities, an earthed Faraday shield is kept between the stored metallic and NMC materials. This separation continues until the extracted metallic Zuggans are safely in their bottles, together with their Zuggan spheres to prevent them going astray and causing mischief among the more gentle materials.
However, we do suggest you keep and store your metallic Zuggans in a separate box from NMC Zuggans.
We supply all kinds of different practitioners with many of the things they need, and believe us, they need lots of different things in thaumaturgy, witchcraft, wicca, healing, voodoo, hoodoo, rootwork, shamanism, organised and indigenous religions, wishwork, cunning work, the crafting of talismans and amulets, cursing and a host of other works of wonder.
Obviously, lots of the materials we supply are traditional - well known to witches, clairvoyants and spell casters, many of them in use since before recorded history. If it is in regular use or mentioned in texts, we probably stock it.
We also supply people who are trying to get back that independent, close and immersive magical connection all humans once had with nature, so we supply lots of natural things as prospect materials for people to experiment with in order to rediscover lost arts and (hopefully) share their findings with other people. We are happy to try and fill requests.
Apart from well-known magical materials, there is also potential in materials used in other disciplines such as herbalism, Ayurveda and homeopathy, many of which may well have started out as magical materials and then, having been found to work pharmacologically as well as magically, they have been adopted for modern medical or therapeutic use. With modern use, the older, magical uses then fell away or were ridiculed or prohibited and were forgotten. Powerful medicines are an indicator of underlying magical properties. We produce the magical form of many traditional medicines for experimentation, craft and ritual.
Then there are materials that are too dangerous to handle without specialist knowledge or licences. We make them available in a safe and useable form. We understand that dangerous materials can fall into the wrong hands, so we obtain or manufacture the minimum quantities we require, under strictly controlled conditions, then process them to a safe level and promptly destroy the original samples for legal and safety reasons and to avoid temptation for maleficent thieves or other miscreants. To further avoid unwelcome attention, we do not store or manufacture the most sensitive and rare materials at our main UK labs – only the safely diluted Zuggan versions are stored.
And, of course, there are endangered plants and animals that need protection from exploitation. With our contacts in Britain and abroad, we are often in a position to locate a specimen of these precious items (from legal sources such as natural deaths, road kill, private collections or rescue programmes for threatened plants on land clearance during urban or road development, etc.) We then process a small quantity into a widely available Zuggan form, thus protecting the rest from over-exploitation in the wild. We never knowingly buy, handle or sell illegal specimens. We do use a few, very few, by-products from food production or hunting but it would be a pity to waste those valuable things that are doomed by development or have already given up their physical existence. We do not accept any articles of unknown provenance. Our premises and processes are always open to local police wildlife officers, trading standards, health inspectors and wildlife protectors provided the latter have a practical, rather than a political or zealous religious or troll agenda.
Some mixtures require lots of expensive or difficult to obtain ingredients, or perhaps have extremely involved or lengthy preparation. We pre-prepare these mixtures in accordance with tradition, saving time and money.
There are thousands of natural materials believed to have magical properties, and it is our belief that everything has magical properties to some extent. We believe that many of their magical uses have been lost since the prohibitions of organised religion and then science over the last few centuries. Now it is time to rediscover those forgotten gifts, and we supply a wide range of materials for magical experiment.
Our online shop is being developed and stocked to make it easier for people to buy materials. We are proceeding quite cautiously (outside of emergencies, magic is never particularly hurried) because we are still not too sure how the public or authorities will react. For example, when we opened a little Ebay shop online for the convenience of customers, Ebay shut it down without warning or compensation shortly after opening – so don’t think that all the witch burners have gone away (those who profess to do the least harm are often the ones we have to watch the closest). For years, until recently, we have always remained a very private undertaking, supplying customers who know us and find us by word of mouth within their own, often very private, circles. We do, in fact, have thousands of materials at our disposal and more are added all the time. The shop will grow. Let us know if you have a request.
We are well aware of the controversy surrounding the use of plastic bottles. However, our dropper bottles are for dispensing drops and thus do not fall under the usual definition of single use – each bottle has the potential to dispense up to 200 drops or 200 uses. When bottles are finally empty, our customers are generally, by definition, very sensitive to the environment and we trust them to dispose of any bottles responsibly. You can always send the empties back to us for proper disposal.
We find plastic bottles to be as good, if not better than, glass from a practical point of view – most virgin plastics appear to be magically or spiritually transparent. They are certainly much more resistant to damage. Plastic dropper bottles are also easier to use than glass dropper bottles (except for glass bottles fitted with rubber bulb droppers, but they are very expensive to buy in large numbers).
Without getting into the wider argument, it is a fact that glass bottles are heavy and brittle. They require a lot more packaging and require a significant fuel cost to transport. Both have environmental costs, since everything we use has an environmental cost. On balance, we calculate that our multi-use plastic dropper bottles have a lower environmental cost than glass bottles. Of course, as always, you may not be convinced (and we fully respect your right to disagree), so for those of you who really would prefer glass, we can also pack our Zuggans brines in glass dropper bottles.

TAKE CARE AND USE GOOD JUDGEMENT AT ALL TIMES
Yes it is legal to sell them in the United Kingdom. However, some authorities may prohibit the possession or carriage of some natural materials due to their poisonous nature. In the UK there is a general exemption (from the old poisons register) for vascular plants and their seeds. Today many materials fall under the Poisons & Explosives precursors legislation. We reserve the right to refuse to sell any material where the user or quantity arouse our suspicions. Please be advised that our sales ledger is open to inspection by police and wildlife authorities. If you wish to import any material, it is your responsibility to ensure that it is legal to do so in your jurisdiction.
Because naturally poisonous organic materials are produced by plants to protect themselves with amazing effectiveness. These naturally occurring protective qualities can be used and incorporated into all forms of magical work if used carefully and with common sense. Some elements, such as Mercury or Arsenic are poisonous but they are used for their other properties. It should be remembered that many garden plants and household chemicals are extremely poisonous, too.
With common sense. Keep them away from children and animals. Use only as much as you need and do not try to store large quantities. Wear protective clothing where necessary. Remember that some resins and most wood dusts are notorious asthma sensitisers and a suitable mask should be worn where airborne dust, smoke or fumes are generated, and that includes regular immersion in incense smoke.
We have spent years building a good reputation for listening to our customers and sourcing materials for them. If you require a specific material or you simply have a suggestion for materials you feel we should stock them please contact us here and let us know. At the very least we will add it to our client acquisition list so you know we will stock it soon. Thanks for taking the time though, we really appreciate it!
